Abstract
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver tissue that can be caused by infections, drugs, toxins, metabolic disorders, or autoimmune disorders. In viral hepatitis infection, there are five main strains of the hepatitis virus, types A, B, C, D and E. Hepatitis B is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). This infection can be acute or chronic. Hepatitis B in children occurs because HBV can be transmitted vertically from mother to child. Vertical transmission, 95% occurred in the perinatal period (at birth delivery) and 5% were intra-uterine. At this time, the tests that can be use to diagnose HBV are HBV DNA, HBsAg, HBeAg, and anti-HBc testing. Hepatitis B treatment in children can be given interferon or nucleoside analogues. For prevention, during the perinatal period vaccination can be given to all infants. If the baby whose from mother with HBsAg positive with or without HbeAg positive, then the baby must given hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) and active vaccination.
