Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan istilah balap teknis ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia dalam film Gran Turismo (2023). Analisis ini menggunakan teori strategi penerjemahan untuk menangani ketidaksetaraan pada tingkat kata yang dikemukakan oleh Baker (2018). Teori ini mencakup strategi seperti paraphrasing using a related word, loan word or loan word with an explanation, dan omission, illustration, paraphrasing using unrelated word, cultural substitution, more natural or less expressive word, dan general word (superordinate). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis terjemahan istilah teknis balap yang spesifik pada domain tertentu dan untuk menganalisis strategi penerjemahan yang diterapkan. Data dikumpulkan dengan mengunakan teknik observasi non-partisipan dilakukan dengan menonton film dan mengidentifikasi serta mencatat istilah teknis yang terdapat dalam subtitle. Sebanyak dua puluh istilah teknik balap yang dipilih dan diklasifikasikan berdasarkan sesuai dengan fungsinya dalam konteks balap, lalu divalidasi menggunakan glosarium resmi yang disediakan oleh Formula 1. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa strategi penerjemahan yang paling dominan adalah paraphrasing using related word, yang terdapat pada 50% data. Strategi kedua yang paling sering digunakan adalah loan word with explanation terdapat pada 20% data, yang menunjukan bahwa dalam beberapa kasus, keakuratan tetap dipertahankan dengan meminjam istilah tersebut. Strategi seperti omission dan paraphrase using related unrelated word lebih jarang digunakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerjemah harus memahami makna literal, fungsi teknis, dan makna kontekstual dari istilah tersebut agar dapat menerjemahkan terminology khusus secara akurat dan alami. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa menerjemahkan terminology khusus secara efektif memerlukan kelarasan antara pengetahuan linguistik dan pemahaman terhadap subjek.This study analyzed the translation strategies used to translate technical racing terms into Indonesian for the movie Gran Turismo (2023). The analysis is based on the theory of translation strategies for dealing with non-equivalence at the word level proposed by Baker (2018). The theory consists of strategies such as paraphrasing with a related word, using a loan word, or using a loan word with explanation, and omission. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the translation of domain-specific racing terms and to identify the strategies applied. The data were collected using a non-participant observation technique by watching the movie and identifying and writing down the technical terms in the subtitles. A total of twenty technical racing terms were selected and classified according to their function in the racing context, validated using officials' glossaries provided by Formula 1. The results of the analyses showed that the most dominant strategy was the translation by paraphrasing using related words, present in 50% of the data. The second most frequently used strategy uses a loan word plus an explanation, appearing in 20% of the data, showing that in some cases, technical accuracy was retained by borrowing the term and clarifying it for the audience. Strategies such as omission and paraphrasing using unrelated words are used less frequently. The findings show that translators must understand the literal meaning, technical function, and contextual meaning of the term to translate specialized terminology accurately and naturally. This study concluded that translating specialized terminology effectively requires a balance of both linguistic knowledge and subject understanding.
