Abstract

This current study was implemented in order (1) to find out how the realization of code mixing of the eighth semester students at Christian University of Indonesia in Twitter use is; and (2) to figure out in what things the eighth semester students at Christian University of Indonesia realize code mixing in Twitter use. This is qualitative descriptive study. The participants in study are 15 native Indonesians namely the eight semester students of English teaching of faculty of education and teacher training at Christian University of Indonesia, Jakarta. In achieving the objectives, the data of this study were collected from tweets and mentions that had been posted in Twitter from June 2013 to June 2014 by using two Twitter accounts namely @JGlowsP and @vano_varina. The data were analyzed by classifying them into three types of code mixing and by determining how many English foreign words which contained in each type. The result indicated that the eighth semester students realized code mixing in Twitter use in three ways in which the ways indirectly refer to the types. From 299 tweets and 58 mentions found, the types were insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization code mixing. The most frequently type used was insertion, then followed by alternation code mixing, while the less type used went to congruent lexicalization code mixing. Based on that result, the further research can describe not only the types but also the motif in doing code mixing. Keywords: code mixing, Twitter, qualitative descriptive research Studi ini dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk mencari tahu bagaimana perealisasian campur kode pada para mahasiswa semester delapan di Universitas Kristen Indonesia; dan untuk mengetahui dalam hal apa saja para mahasiswa semester delapan di Universitas Kristen Indonesia merealisasikan campur kode dalam pengunaan Twitter. Ini adalah studi deskriptif kualitatif. Peserta dalam studi ini adalah 15 orang penduduk asli Indonesia yaitu mahasiswa semester delapan jurusan pendidikan bahasa Inggris, fakultas keguruan dan ilmu pendidikan di Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Jakarta. Dalam mencapai tujuan-tujuan tersebut, data-data dalam studi ini dikumpulkan dari tweet dan mention yang telah dimuat di Twitter dari bulan Juni 2013 sampai Juni 2014 dengan menggunakan dua akun Twitter, yaitu @JGlowsP dan @vano_varina. Kemudian data-data tersebut dianalisa dengan mengelompokannya ke dalam tiga jenis campur kode dan dengan menetukan berapa banyak kata asing dalam bahasa inggris yang terkandung di setiap jenis. Hasil dari studi ini mengindikasikan bahwa para mahasiswa semester delapan tersebut merealisasikan campur kode dalam penggunaan Twitter dalam tiga cara, di mana cara-cara tersebut secara tidak langsung mengacu pada jenis-jenis tersebut. Dari 299 tweet dan 58 mention yang ditemukan, jenis-jenis tersebut adalah campur kode sisipan, campur kode alternasi, dan campur kode kongruen leksikalisasi. Jenis yang paling sering digunakan adalah campur kode sisipan, kemudian diikuti dengan campur kode alternasi, sedangkan jenis yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah campur kode lesikalisasi kongruen. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, penelitian selanjutnya dapat menjabarkan tidak hanya jenis-jenisnya tapi juga motif dalam melakukan campur kode.
