Abstract
The high rate of population growth in Indonesia has resulted in increased supply of land for construction sites. Soil conditions in Indonesia are very diverse, one of the problems that are often encountered in establishing a construction that is the soil has a small carrying capacity, especially on expansive soil because it has a high expanding and shrinking properties For that reason, research is conducted by using salt (NaCl) as stabilization material which is expected to reduce the potential of shell clay soil development by using Swelling test and CBR test. The expansive soil sample is taken directly from the Lippo Cikarang area, while the salt sample (NaCl) used is kitchen salt. Mixing of 50% salt solution (as in the previous study) of the moisture content used in the Swelling and CBR testing, the result that the soil shrinkage potential decreased to ± 50%. It is evident that salt (NaCl) has an effect in reducing the amount of swelling on expansive clay soil. Keywords: salt solution (NaCl), stabilization, expansive clay of soil, swelling, strain, California Bearing Ratio.
