Abstract

Indonesia is famous for its diversity of vegetable resources that are beneficial for health, one of which is the Putri Malu plant (Mimosa pudica Linn). Mimosa pudica Linn leaves contain compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins that are antibacterial. This study aims to find out the effects of ethanol extract of Mimosa pudica Linn leaves as a growth inhibitor of Vibrio cholerae bacteria. This research is experimental in vivo with Kirby-Baurer disk diffusion method. The concentrations of Mimosa pudica Linn leaf extract used are 100 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, 12,5 mg/ml, 6,25 mg/ml, 3,125 mg/ml, and 1,5625 mg/ml. As a positive control used tetracycline antibiotics 30 mcg and aquadest as a negative control. The average diameter of Vibrio cholerae bacterial bland zone is 21.00 mm and 0 mm for positive control and negative control respectively. The average diameter of the bacterial bland zone against Mimosa pudica Linn leaf extract in a sequence is 2.36 mm, 1.26 mm, 0.96 mm, 1.30 mm, 0.80 mm, 0.60 mm, and 0.36 mm. Based on the data can be concluded Mimosa pudica Linn leaf extract is ineffective in inhibiting the growth of Vibrio cholerae bacteria. Keyword: Mimosa pudica Linn leaves, Vibrio cholerae, antibacterial activity.
