Abstract

Tinea capitis is a disease of the scalp caused by dermatophyte fungi. This disease causes health problems, especially in countries with tropical and subtropical climates because of its good potential for fungal growth. The population of tinea capitis in the world is increasing in children. This study is a systematic literature review which was conducted with the aim of knowing the epidemiology of the incidence of tinea capitis in Asia. Search of data sources is done through Pubmed®, Wiley Library, and Google Scholar. From the search, 25 relevant articles were found. Based on the data that has been collected, it can be concluded that the prevalence of tinea capitis varies in Asia which is influenced by geography, migration, and socioeconomic status of a country. The results of this study showed the prevalence of tinea capitis in Asia reached 7.1% and often occurs in children. Most gender in men. The most common causes are M. canis and T. violaceum. Contact with pets, sharing of combs or towels, and poor hygiene increase the risk of major transmission of tinea capitis. While the use of corticosteroids, postmenopausal and comorbid women increase the risk of tinea capitis in adults. Keywords: prevalence, epidemiology, Asia, and tinea capitis
