Abstract
Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) is one of the typical plants that is widely grown and utilized in Sumatra, especially by the Batak tribe in North Sumatra. Empirically andaliman is used by people for the treatment of diarrhea, toothache, and preserving food (antimicrobial). The research conducted aims to determine the potential of andaliman extracts in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans and to find out the phytochemical compounds. The extraction process uses maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent and aquadest. The antifungal activity test method used is the disc diffusion method and phytochemical test with the Harborne method. Andaliman extract concentrations used are 50%, 40%, 30%, 20% and 10%, with positive control in the form of fluconazole and negative control is aquadest. The results showed that the Andaliman extract both with ethanol and aquadest had an antifungal effect on the growth of Candida albicans with the lowest concentration of 10%. Andaliman extract contains active compounds in the form of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. Keywords: Andaliman, Antifungi, Candida albicans, phytochemicals.
