Abstract

ABSTRAK Buah jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia) merupakan salah satu buah yang banyak dikonsumsi masyarakat sebagai obat tradisional. Senyawa aktif yang terkandung dalam buah jeruk nipis diantaranya adalah fenol, flavonoid, vitamin c dan minyak essensial. Buah jeruk nipis sudah terbukti memiliki berbagai manfaat seperi antiseptik, antihelmintik, antifungal, anti bakteri, antiviral, anti kanker, dan antioksidan. Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa air perasan jeruk nipis terbukti efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Gram positif maupun Gram negatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri air perasan jeruk nipis terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan air perasan jeruk nipis yang dibuat dengan cara diperas secara manual. Air perasan jeruk nipis akan dibuat dalam lima konsentrasi yaitu 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, dan 100%. Bakteri yang digunakan berasal dari isolasi Streptococcus pyogenes dalam media agar darah yang didapatkan dari bagian Mikrobiologi Universitas Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah Kirby-Bauer Disk Diffusion Method pada media agar Mueller Hinton. Pada penelitian ini tidak tampak zona hambatan disekitar cakram yang mengandung air perasan jeruk nipis dengan berbagai konsentrasi. Dengan demikian, air perasan jeruk nipis tidak terbukti efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes. Kata Kunci: air perasan jeruk nipis, Citrus aurantifolia, Streptococcus pyogenes ABSTRACT Citrus aurantifolia is widely consumed for traditional medicine. The fruit of Citrus aurantifolia contains high amounts of phenols, flavonoids, ascorbic acid and essential oils. This fruit can be used as antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer and antioxidant. According to previous research, Citrus aurantifolia juice has been proved to inhibit the growth of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. The purpose of this experiment is to observed the effectivity of Citrus aurantifolia as antibacterial againts Streptococcus pyogenes growth. This experiment used five different concentrations of Citrus aurantifolia juice. The concentrations are 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The isolated Streptococcus pyogenes in blood agar was from The Department of Microbiology, University of Indonesia. This experiment is using the Kirby-Bauer Disk Diffusion Method in Mueller Hinton agar. The result was, there is no inhibition zone around the disk in all concentrations of Citrus aurantifolia juice. The conclusion of this experiment is juice of Citrus aurantifolia can’t inhibit Streptococcus pyogenes growth. Keywords: : Citrus aurantifolia juice, Citrus aurantifolia, Streptococcus pyogenes
