Abstract

Urban planning and building design must now pay attention to the Covid-19 pandemic problem. The 2012 UN Conference has stated the importance of sustainable development in urban and environmental planning. This issue was then used as a development goal and referred to as Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. In discussing urban planning and building design, Doxiadis’s theory of settlement will be used, then combined with the principles of sustainable development from the UN. Sustainable development is then linked to the Covid-19 epidemic to get a more precise theory about sustainable development under current conditions. The discussion of urban planning and building design in the future will be carried out in three parts, namely first regarding the principle of housing based on the theory of Ekistics and the sciences related to it, secondly regarding sustainable development from the UN and third regarding Sustainable Development in the context of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Several experts have outlined the weaknesses of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). Both the Ekistics theory and the Sustainable Development from the UN discuss development from an economic perspective. The Ekistics theory still states the role of humans in overall development, while the UN states that the environment limits development. The threat from the Covid-19 Pandemic, which is beyond people’s predictions for the sustainability of the UN’s version of sustainable development, will reverse the order that was certain until before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. As urban and building planners, we must quickly anticipate this change and think of a way out of the current shock. In closing, it discussed sustainable development for the city of Jakarta by taking into account the principles of sustainable development from the United Nations. Thus, it is expected that writing about sustainable development during the Covid-19 pandemic can be utilized by the DKI Jakarta Regional Government and teaching staff and observers of architectural issues, cities in general, and the city of Jakarta in particular. Keywords: Settlement - Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Covid-19
