Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using English video on students' vocabulary achievement to eight-graders at SMP Negeri 102 Jakarta. The research used a quasi-experimental design using a t-test to determine the significant effect of students' vocabulary achievement difference between memorizing method and using English video through the score pretest and post-test. These techniques could increase students' vocabulary achievement to learn the English language and make them happy in the learning process. This research can be supposed to motivate students to learn English by using English videos. The sample was the eighth-grade such as 8C and 8D, at SMP Negeri 102 Jakarta in 2020/2021, which consisted of 71 students. The instrument was using pretest and post-test. The researcher gave 4 treatments to both groups. The data showed that the post-test was higher than the pretest. The result of the analysis of the study showed that teaching using English video was effective and gave students motivation in the learning process, so it can be used as an alternative method to increase students' vocabulary achievement. The school should use this method to give motivation and make students enjoy learning the English language. Keywords: vocabulary achievement, teaching vocabulary, English video / Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan video Bahasa Inggris terhadap perolehan kosakata siswa kelas delapan disekolah SMP Negeri 102 Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan model quasi-eksperimen dengan menguji T, untuk mencari perbedaan efek dari penghafalan dan penggunaan video yang signifikan dari perolehan kosakata siswa yang terlihat dari hasil tes pre dan post. Teknik tersebut dapat memperbaiki dan meningkatkan perolehan kosakata siswa serta membuat siswa menjadi senang dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini diharapkan bahwa penggunaan video dapat meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam proses belajar Bahasa Inggris melalui video Bahasa Inggris. Sampel yang digunakan berasal dari SMP Negeri 102 Jakarta kelas 8 di 8C dan 8D akademik 2020/2021 yang berjumlah 71 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes pre dan post. Peneliti memberikan perlakuan sebanyak 4 kali kepada grup ekperimen dan kontrol. Hasil analisis menunjukan nilai posttest lebih tinggi dari pretest. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pengajaran menggunakan video Bahasa Inggris lebih efektif dan memberikan motivasi terhadap siswa, dengan begitu, metode ini bisa menjadi alternatif metode untuk eningkatkan motivasi dan memberikan kenyamanan terhadap siswa dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris.
