Abstract

Thailand in its history is full of coups. In addition to being overwhelmed with the coup, Thailand is a country with a steady and increasing number of foreign tourist arrivals every year. There are several factors causing the military to stage a coup against the prime minister in Thailand. Demonstration was one of the causes of the coup. This is because demonstration cause a political crisis. This research uses qualitative research methodology with descriptive analysis approach which refers to case study using secondary data. This research uses Concept Coup, International Political Economy Concept, and Smart Power Concept. Since 1932 until 2014, there have been 19 attempts of coup d’etat, 12 of 19 coup attempts have been successful. In tradition in Thailand, coup d’etat usually happens continuously. Once a coup is done, it will always be repeated. As happened to the Shinawatra Clan. The Shinawatra clan was Thaksin Shinawatra who became Prime Minister of Thailand in 2001, and Yingluck Shinawatra became Prime Minister of Thailand in 2011. There are several factors that led the military to the coup d’etat of the Shinawatra Clan. The military seeks to restore the prolonged political crisis that has taken place in Thailand. Prevent corruption, rebuild governance and create security and order in Thailand. The interesting coup does not have a significant impact on tourism in Thailand in 2014. This is because the military government is pursuing a strategy aimed at restoring Thailand to its original state.
