Abstract

Kata kunci: tonsilektomi, nyeri akut, perdarahan sekunder, oral cryotherapy, asuhan keperawatan./ Background: Globally, acute tonsillitis in adults accounts for approximately 1–5% of primary healthcare visits, while recurrent tonsillitis occurs in about 10–11% of certain populations. Tonsillitis is one of the most common indications for tonsillectomy. Data from Moh. Ridwan Meuraksa Level II Hospital showed that 305 patients with tonsillitis underwent tonsillectomy within a three-month period. Post-tonsillectomy patients commonly experience acute pain caused by tissue trauma and inflammation and are also at risk of secondary hemorrhage. Oral cryotherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that may reduce pain through local vasoconstriction, decrease inflammation, and support hemostasis. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of oral cryotherapy in reducing pain intensity and preventing secondary hemorrhage in post- tonsillectomy patients at Moh. Ridwan Meuraksa Level II Hospital. Methods: A descriptive case study using the nursing process approach was conducted on two post- tonsillectomy patients. Results: Pain scores decreased from 8 to 5 in patient 1 and from 8 to 3 in patient 2. No signs of secondary hemorrhage were observed during the monitoring period. Conclusion: Oral cryotherapy was effective in reducing pain intensity and supporting the prevention of secondary hemorrhage in post-tonsillectomy patients. Keywords: tonsillectomy, acute pain, secondary hemorrhage, oral cryotherapy, nursing care.
