Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan 3 jenis metafora dan teknik terjemahan pada subtitle Bahasa Indonesia dalam film The Marvels (2023). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Dalam mengumpulkan data, metode catat dengan teknik purposive sampling telah diimplenetasikan. Sebanyak (42) data telah dianalisis dengan teori Lakoff dan Jhonson (2002) untuk menetukan jenis metafora, sedangkan untuk menentukan teknik modulasi, peneliti menggunakan teori Molina dan Albir (2002). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metafora ontologis merupakan jenis metafora yang paling dominan, dengan total (27) kemunculan, disusul oleh metafora struktural sebanyak (8) kemunculan, dan metafora orientasi sebanyak (7) kemunculan. Penggunaan metafora ontologis yang tinggi dalam film ini menunjukkan kecenderungan dialog untuk menggambarkan konsep abstrak dalam bentuk yang lebih konkret guna mempermudah pemahaman audiens. Di sisi lain, metafora struktural dan orientasi juga memainkan peran penting dalam menyampaikan hubungan logis dan spasial antar konsep. Hasil analisis lebih lanjut menunjukkan bahwa teknik modulasi diterapkan dalam sebagian besar proses penerjemahan metafora. Dalam konteks film The Marvels, teknik modulasi membantu menciptakan dialog yang tetap komunikatif dan dapat diterima oleh audiens lintas budaya. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pemahaman mendalam terhadap jenis metafora dan penerapan teknik modulasi berkontribusi secara signifikan dalam keberhasilan penerjemahan dialog film yang bersifat metaforis./This research aims to determine 3 types of metaphors and translation techniques in Indonesian subtitles in the movie The Marvels (2023). This research is a descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, note-taking method with late purposive sampling technique was applied. A total of 42 data have been analyzed with the theory of Lakoff and Jhonson (2002) to determine the type of metaphor, while to determine the modulation technique, the researcher used the theory of Molina and Albir (2002). The results show that ontological metaphor is the most dominant type of metaphor, with a total of 27 occurrences, followed by structural metaphor with 8 occurrences, and orientation metaphor with 7 occurrences. The high use of ontological metaphors in this film shows the dialog's tendency to describe abstract concepts in a more concrete form to facilitate audience understanding. On the other hand, structural and orientational metaphors also play an important role in conveying logical and spatial relationships between concepts. Further analysis shows that modulation techniques are applied in most metaphor translation processes. In the context of The Marvels movie, modulation techniques help to create dialogues that remain communicative and acceptable to cross-cultural audiences. Thus, this study confirms that an in-depth understanding of metaphor types and the application of modulation techniques contribute significantly to the successful translation of metaphorical movie dialogues.
