Abstract

Kata Kunci: Arsitektur Bali, Arsitektur Modern, Vila Tropical House / This thesis examines the transformation of tropical villa architecture in Bali through the lenses of sociology and anthropology, focusing on the cultural adaptation of Balinese society to the development of modern architecture. This study aims to understand how the presence and characteristics of villas styled Tropical House, which differ from traditional Balinese architecture, influence the social and cultural dynamics of the local community. A case study was conducted in Badung Regency - Bali, involving villa owners, architects (traditional, modern, and post-modern), and the surrounding community. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, data collection through interviews, observation, and literature review. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively by categorizing findings to identify patterns of cultural adaptation. Theoretical framework of cultural adaptation and architectural transformation is used to analyze how changes in form and function of the villa respond to internal factors (culture, customs) and external factors (environment, economy, technology), and their impact on Balinese society. The main challenge in integrating these two styles is to maintain the essence of Balinese architecture so as not to be eroded by the dominance of modern concepts. The expected results of the study provide in-depth insights into the interaction between the development of tourism architecture and the preservation of Balinese cultural values and are expected to serve as a reference in developing architecture that is sustainable and rooted in Balinese local wisdom. Keywords: Balinese Architecture, Modern Architecture, Tropical House Villa
