Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of cultural diplomacy and soft power employed by Western countries on the lifestyle changes of Indonesian youth, focusing on Western cultural elements such as social freedoms and celebrations like Halloween. In the context of rapid globalization, Western countries use cultural diplomacy through channels such as social media, international education, and digital platforms to introduce their values. The research uses a qualitative approach, with data collection methods including in-depth interviews, observation, and case studies, aimed at understanding how foreign cultures are accepted and adapted by Indonesian youth. The findings reveal that Western culture is embraced by most Indonesian youth, particularly in terms of social freedom and modern lifestyles. However, tension arises between the desire to preserve traditional values and the influence of Western culture that brings modernity. This research identifies how transculturalism occurs in Indonesia, with Western culture not only being accepted but also modified to align with local values. Furthermore, the study uncovers the role of social media and international education in accelerating the adoption of foreign culture among Indonesian youth. The results provide insights into how cultural diplomacy can be used as a soft power tool to introduce foreign cultures, while also highlighting challenges related to the preservation of Indonesia's local culture.
