Abstract
Findingtheoptimallocationandpower capacityoftractionsubstationsis a problem in the design of DC electric power supply systems for trains. The proposed method uses evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) to find the solution.By using two optimization steps:firstly, findingtheParetooptimalsolutions with NSGA-ii method, and secondly, selecting fromthe Pareto optimalsolutions by using higher-level information to obtain the bestsolution. The method is used to optimize 15 kilometer (km) railway power supply systems with three or four traction substations. The load sharing between the traction substationsis almost the same as the minimum power capacity. Therefore, the single bestsolution is obtained, showing thattheminimumsolution requirementsforthe location and power capacity of the traction substations are met.
