Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the increase in students' chemistry critical thinking skills by implementing STEM integrated PjBL model. The research method used was a quasi experiment with a research design, namely pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The population of this research is all class XI which consists of five classes and a total of 160 students. The sample was determined using a cluster random sampling technique and two classes were obtained, namely class XI.1.1 with 28 students as control class and XI.2.2 with 31 students as experimental class. The experimental class was treated by implementing the STEM integrated PjBL model. The instrument used in this research is a test instrument in the form of six question questions on buffer solution material which have been validated and prepared based on critical thinking indicators. The data obtained was tested using prerequisite analysis tests, namely normality and homogeneity test. The normality test shows that the data is not normally distributed, while the homogeneity test shows that research sample comes from a homogeneous population. Next, the research data was analyzed using a non-parametric test in the form of Mann-Whitney test because the data was not normally distributed. The results show that the value of Asymp. Sig.(2-tailed) is 0.001 (< 0.05), then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This means that there is a significant increase in students' critical thinking abilities. Apart from that, N-Gain test results show that N-Gain score for control class is 0.41 and is in the "medium" category. Meanwhile, N-Gain score for experimental class was 0.73 and is in the "high" category. Based on these data, it can be concluded that there is an increase in students' chemistry critical thinking skills by implementing STEM integrated PjBL model in the research sample.
