Abstract

Energy imbalance leads to fat accumulation, decreased pancreatic insulin secretion, and increased blood sugar levels, which can lead to type 2 diabetes.[1][2] According the World Obesity Organization in 2017 ranks Indonesia in 10th with 15,1 million obese people. Indonesia has the highest obesity rate in Southeast Asia. Type 2 diabetes is rising together with obesity. Diabetes, one of the top 10 noncommunicable illnesses, affects 27,000 residents of the city's 32 Community Health Centers, according to the Depok City Health Office.[3][4] This study examined at how overweight and obese individuals affect type 2 diabetes. Observational cross-sectional analysis was utilized in this study. This study used secondary data research instruments obtained from the medical records of patients at the Tanah Baru Health Center UPTD from January to July 2022, with a total sample of 1201 patients, 365 overweight patients and 836 obese patients. The Chi Square test yielded the study's results, namely a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) between the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the nutritional status of overweight and obesity. This indicates a positive correlation between the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the nutritional status of overweight and obesity in Tanah Baru Health Center type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from January to July 2022.
