Abstract

Salmonella typhi merupakan bakteri golongan Gram negatif yang bersifat patogen terhadap manusia. Infeksi bakteri ini dapat menular melalui fecal-oral dan dapat menyebabkan penyakit demam tifoid. Biji kapuk ( Ceiba pentandra L.) dari tanaman kapuk merupakan tanaman yang banyak terdapat di Indonesia dan mudah dibudidayakan. Beberapa penelitian menunjukan bahwa biji kapuk memiliki efektivitas sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui senyawa metabolit sekunder dan efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol biji kapuk terhadap bakteri Salmonella typhi. Ekstrak diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96% terhadap biji kapuk yang telah dikeringkan. Uji fitokimia dilakukan untuk mengetahui keberadaan senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, steroid/triterpenoid dan quinon. Aktivitas antibakteri biji kapuk dilakukan dengan metode disc diffusion atau metode Kirby bauer. Konsentrasi biji kapuk yang digunakan sebagai uji antibakteri adalah 12,5%, 25%, 50% dan kontrol positif menggunakan kloramfenikol. Hasil uji fitokimia memperlihatkan tidak terdeteksinya senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, steroid/triterpenoid dan Quinon pada ekatrak etanol biji kapuk. Hasil uji antibakteri menunjukan tidak terbentuk zona hambat terhadap bakteri salmonella typhi. Kata kunci : biji kapuk, fitokimia, antibakteri, Salmonella typhi. ./ Salmonella typhi is a negative Gram bacterium that is phatogenic to humans. These bacterial infections can be transmitted through fecal-oral and cause typhoid fever. Kapok seeds ( Ceiba pentandra L.) from kapok tree are one of many common plant Indonesia which easy to grow. Studies prove that the kapok seeds have antibacterial effectiveness. The purpose of the study is to identify the secondary metabolic compounds and the antimicrobials effectiveness of ethanol kapok seeds extract to Salmonella typhi bacteria. The extract is obtained by maseration of using 96% ethanol solvent against dried kapok seeds. Phytochemical tests are done to identify the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tanins, steroid/triterpenoids and quinons. Antimicrobials of kapok seeds activity are used by disc diffusion method or known as Kirby bauer method. The concentration of the kapok seeds used as an antibacterial test was 12,5%, 25%, 50% and positive control using chloramphenolic. A phytochemical test revealed that there was not any alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tanins, steroid/triterpenoids and quinons content in ethanol kapok seeds extract. The result of antibacterial test shows that there is no resistant zones against Salmonella typhi bacteria. Keywords : kapok seeds, phytochemicals, antibacterial, Salmonella typhi.
