Abstract

Ketakutan dalam belajar dan mengajar bahasa Inggris adalah masalah umum yang pernah kita lihat dan rasakan. Banyak calon guru bahasa Inggris yang juga mengalami ketakutan dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti mengenai ketakutan-ketakutan yang dialami oleh calon guru bahasa Inggris dalam praktik mengajar. Penelitian dilakukan di empat Universitas berbeda; Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Prof. Dr. Hamka, dan Universitas Indraprasta PGRI. Penelitian ini melibatkan 36 responden untuk mengisi kuesioner dan 10 responden sebagai narasumber dalam wawancara. Responden diambil dari mahasiswa/i semester 8 yang sudah melaksanakan praktik mengajar di sekolah. Data kuantitatif didapat dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Sedangkan data kualitatif didapat dengan melakukan wawancara dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar calon guru bahasa Inggris mengalami ketakutan dalam mengajar selama praktik mengajar berlangsung. Hal ini dapat kita lihat dari respon para peserta. Namun dengan demikian para calon guru bahasa Inggris sudah melakukan cara untuk mengurangi rasa takut mereka, dan akan melakukan yang terbaik di kegiatan mengajar selanjutnya. Kata kunci : calon guru bahasa Inggris, ketakutan guru, praktik mengajar./ Anxiety in language learning and teaching is the common problem that we have seen and felt. Many of pre-service EFL teachers also felt anxious in teaching English. This study aimed to examine the anxieties of pre-service EFL teachers during teaching practicum. This study was conducted in four different Universities; Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Prof. Dr. Hamka, and Universitas Indraprasta PGRI. This study involved 36 participants to fill the questionnaire and 10 participants as the interviewees. The participants belonged to eighth semester who had experienced the teaching practicum at school. The quantitative data collected using the questionnaire was analyzed by using descriptive technique. While, the qualitative data was obtained through the interview and analyzed descriptively. Based on the result of the research, it was concluded that the majority of the pre-service EFL teachers felt anxious during the teaching practicum. It could be seen by the respons of the partcipants. Nevertheless, pre-service EFL teachers did some strategies to reduce the anxieties and will do the best in teaching in the future.
