Abstract

The purpose of this research to examine the use of GPS in mapping various fields, using literature studies taken from journals, or other sources from the internet. The development of mapping technology such as the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) navigation satellite technology can determine the position of points on the earth's surface with precision. The development of this technology was also followed by the development of large data processing technology in the form of computer technology products, both hardware, and software. GPS as a navigation satellite system has been widely used in Indonesia in various fields. By combining a GPS receiver as a data acquisition tool and a computer as a data processor, the mapping process can be done quickly and accurately and in the end, it can be used for various purposes or information services. The results show that GPS technology can provide position information with high accuracy, relatively fast time so that it can be applied in various fields and provide information to many people simultaneously, thereby increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of those engaged in positioning work of points on the earth's surface or various kinds of mapping.
