Abstract

International trade has become an important issue for Indonesia which is a country with an economy that one of them is driven by export activities. The crisis in some of Indonesia's traditional trading partners affects the decline in demand for imported goods which has an impact on Indonesia's domestic economic situation. This becomes a serious problem and one way to anticipate it is to create new alternative markets to improve export performance. One potential market is the region of Latin America that has a considerable population and most countries do not apply large tariffs for imported goods but, some obstacles such as geographical distance and the lack of official channels between countries make the utilization of trade potential of the region to be not maximal. For that reason, Indonesia is involved in FEALAC, an intergovernmental cooperation forum linking East Asia that helps to improve relations with Latin American countries. Therefore, this study would like to identify how FEALAC's role in improving trade relations between Indonesia and Latin America. With the concept of Interregionalism researchers will try to see the role of FEALAC in improving trade relations Indonesia - Latin America. Research methodologies that researchers use include data collection and data analysis. In data collection, researchers are more inclined to use literature research techniques (Library Research). FEALAC role for Indonesia is more to the economic field because it can be a bridge for Indonesia if you want to do trade relations with Latin America. Especially in the era of Joko Widodo who has quite a lot of trade agreements with countries in Latin America.
