Abstract

The main focus in this study is about analyzing idiomatic expressions containing taboo words. What is considered taboo in one language may not be considered taboo in another language. This makes the translation of idiomatic expressions containing taboo words require special treatment so that they can be appreciated in the target language without losing the meaning intended by the original author. This author sees the potential of Molina and Albir's translation techniques to solve this problem. By analyzing a self-development book written by Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life. This author hopes to find a solution to translate idiomatic expressions containing taboo words by analyzing the types of taboo words in idiomatic expressions and the types of translation techniques used in translating the book. The study uses quantitative descriptive with observation as a method of data collection. This author uses Molina and Albir's theory in analyzing the translation techniques applied to translate idiomatic expressions, namely Adaptation, Modulation, Compensation, Amplification, Borrowing, Calque, Description, Discursive Creation, Established equivalence, Generalization, Linguistic Amplification, Linguistic Compression, Literal translation, Particularization, Reduction, Substitution, Transposition, and Variation. In the Indonesian translation of the self-development book, it was found that modulation was the most frequently found translation technique. Then followed by the Linguistic Amplification technique which was the least. Other translation techniques such as adaptation, borrowing, calque, compensation, description, literally, substitution and variation were not found in the idiomatic expressions translated into the book. / Fokus utama dalam penelitian ini adalah tentang menganalisis ekspresi idiomatik yang mengandung kata-kata tabu. Apa yang dianggap tabu dalam satu bahasa mungkin tidak dianggap tabu dalam bahasa lain. Hal ini membuat penerjemahan ekspresi idiomatik yang mengandung kata-kata tabu memerlukan perlakuan khusus agar dapat diapresiasi dalam bahasa target tanpa kehilangan pesan yang ingin disampaikan oleh penulis aslinya. Penulis ini melihat potensi teknik penerjemahan Molina dan Albir untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini. Dengan meneliti buku pengembangan diri yang ditulis oleh Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life. Penulis ini berharap dapat menemukan resolusi untuk menerjemahkan ekspresi idiomatik yang mengandung kata-kata tabu dengan menganalisis jenis kata tabu dalam ekspresi idiomatik dan jenis teknik terjemah yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan buku tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan observasi sebagai metode pengambilan data. Penulis menggunakan teori Molina dan Albir dalam menganalisa teknik terjemah yang diterapkan untuk menerjemahkan ekspresi idiomatik yaitu Adaptasi. Modulasi, kompensasi, Amplifikasi, Peminjaman, Kalke, Deskripsi, Kreasi diskursif, Lazim, Generalisasi. Amplifikasi linguistik, Kompresi Linguistik, Harfiah, Partikularisasi, Reduksi, Substitusi. Transposisi, dan Variasi. Dalam buku pengembangan diri terjemahan Bahasa Indonesia ditemukan bahwa modulasi menjadi teknik terjemah yang paling banyak ditemukan. Kemudian diikuti dengan teknik Amplifikasi linguistik yang paling sedikit. Adapun teknik terjemah yang lain seperti adaptasi, peminjaman, kalke, kompensasi, deskripsi, harfiah, substitusi dan variasi tidak ditemukan dalam ekspresi idiomatik yang diterjemahkan ke buku tersebut.
