Abstract

AbstractIntroduction: Epistaxis or nosebleed is one of theemergency conditions in the field of otorhinolaryngologythat is often encountered, especially anterior epistaxis.Allergic rhinitis can be a predisposing factor for epistaxisdue to chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa thatcauses fragility of blood vessels in the Kiesselbach plexusarea. Objective: To report a case of anterior epistaxis in apatient with a history of allergic rhinitis, and to evaluatethe appropriateness of the diagnosis and managementbased on existing theories and literature. Methods: Thiswriting is a descriptive case report of a patient who camewith complaints of nosebleeds. Anamnesis, physicalexamination, and supporting examinations were performedto confirm the diagnosis and formulate management. Results and Discussion: The patient was diagnosed withanterior epistaxis triggered by the underlying condition ofallergic rhinitis. Therapy given was in the form of localtreatment (cauterization) and antihistamine medication tocontrol allergic symptoms. The evaluation results showedsignificant clinical improvement without recurrence. Conclusion: Anterior epistaxis can occur as acomplication of chronic allergic rhinitis. The diagnosisestablished through anamnesis, physical examination, andsupporting tests is consistent with the theory outlined in theliterature review. Appropriate treatment of underlyingcauses, such as allergic rhinitis, is crucial to preventrecurrence.
