Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam subtitle film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), serta mengukur efektivitas subtitle tersebut terhadap audiens bahasa target menggunakan skala Likert. Analisis difokuskan pada prosedur penerjemahan berdasarkan teori Newmark (1988) yang mencakup 18 jenis prosedur penerjemahan. Peneliti menggunakan metode pengamatan (metode simak) untuk menganalisis penggunaan bahasa dan teknik note-taking untuk mencatat prosedur penerjemahan yang muncul. Data dianalisis menggunakan Manual Data Analysis Procedure (MDAP) yang meliputi proses pengkodean, kategorisasi dialog, identifikasi tema, dan pembuatan memo (Rofiah & Burhan Bungin, 2024). Setelah data terkumpul, peneliti mengidentifikasi prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam subtitle dan mengaitkannya dengan efektivitas penerjemahan dari perspektif audiens. Efektivitas subtitle dievaluasi melalui tiga aspek utama, yaitu akurasi, keterbacaan (readability), dan keterterimaan (acceptability), berdasarkan model penilaian kualitas terjemahan dari Nababan (2016). Penilaian dilakukan melalui kuesioner yang diisi sendiri oleh responden yang sebelumnya telah menonton film tersebut di platform Disney+ Hotstar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prosedur through-translation merupakan strategi yang paling dominan digunakan dalam subtitle film ini. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa sebagian besar terjemahan berusaha menjaga kesetiaan terhadap teks sumber, namun tetap mempertimbangkan keterpahaman bagi audiens. Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner, mayoritas responden memberikan penilaian positif terhadap subtitle film ini. Mereka menilai bahwa subtitle berhasil menyampaikan makna secara jelas, relevan, dan sesuai dengan konteks budaya target. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa strategi literal seperti through-translation mampu mendukung penyampaian pesan secara efektif serta mempermudah pemahaman penonton terhadap alur dan isi cerita film./This study aims to analyze the translation procedures used in the subtitles of the film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) and to assess the effectiveness of those subtitles for the target-language audience using a Likert scale. The analysis focuses on translation procedures based on Newmark's (1988) theory, which includes 18 types of translation procedures. The researcher employed an observation method (simak) to examine language use and note-taking techniques to record the identified translation procedures. Data were analyzed using the Manual Data Analysis Procedure (MDAP), which involves coding, categorizing dialogues, identifying themes, and memo writing (Rofiah & Burhan Bungin, 2024). After the data were collected, the researcher identified the translation procedures used in the subtitles and linked them to their effectiveness from the audience’s perspective. Subtitle effectiveness was evaluated through three main aspects: accuracy, readability, and acceptability, based on the translation quality assessment model proposed by Nababan (2016). The assessment was conducted using self-administered questionnaires distributed to individuals who had previously watched the film on the Disney+ Hotstar platform. The results show that through-translation was the most dominant strategy used in the film's subtitles. This indicates that most translations aimed to maintain fidelity to the source text while also considering the comprehensibility for the target audience. Based on the questionnaire results, the majority of respondents gave positive feedback, stating that the subtitles conveyed meaning clearly, appropriately, and in line with the target culture’s context. The study concludes that literal strategies, such as through-translation, effectively support message delivery and help the audience better understand the storyline and content of the film.
