Abstract
Since the Taliban’s return in August 2021, the entire state system has been fully controlled by their authority. They have made many changes. One of the most highlighted is the change in norms that discredit women in social, political, religious, cultural, and other life. The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons behind the change in norms that limit women’s freedom and to see a comparison of the quality of life before and after the Taliban. The theory used to look at this problem is Edward Said’s orientalism. For Said, behavior such as that made by the Taliban is orientalist behavior that fights for Eastern values and rejects the legacy of ‘Western’ values. In addition, in this study, the concept of gender is also used to prioritize women as an identity that must be respected like other identities, namely men. Something that does not happen in the context of life under the Taliban regime. Keywords: Taliban, Women, Norms, Afghanistan
