Abstract
This thesis aims to analyze the impact of queer narrative representation in Boys Love (BL) series produced by GMMTV on the shifting attitudes and perceptions of Indonesian society toward the LGBTQ2S+ community. To examine this phenomenon, the study employs a theoretical framework comprising the diffusion of norms theory, the concept of global queering, and the concept of gender performativity. These theoretical foundations are utilized to understand the dynamics of queer norm dissemination in a transnational context. This research adopts a case study method with a qualitative approach, relying on both primary and secondary data collected through surveys, observation, documentation, and literature review. The findings indicate that GMMTV’s Boys Love series functions as a catalyst in creating discursive spaces around queer identity in Indonesia. The popularity of these series contributes to a gradual shift in social perception and an increase in inclusivity toward the LGBTQ2S+ community, although such progress continues to face significant resistance from conservative cultural norms and traditional values.
