Abstract

Thailand telah memanfaatkan pesatnya perkembangan industri film yang dimilikinya sebagai strategi dalam membangun citra negara. Popularitas film Thailand menjadi peluang untuk mempromosikan budaya dan pariwisata negara ini kepada khalayak global, termasuk masyarakat Indonesia. Melalui representasi tradisi, nilai, bahasa, dan tempat-tempat, film Thailand berfungsi sebagai alat diplomasi yang efektif. Penelitian ini akan menjawab kontribusi film Thailand sebagai alat nation branding dalam mempromosikan budaya dan pariwisata Thailand kepada masyarakat Indonesia pada tahun 2022 – 2024. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengkaji film Thailand dalam mempengaruhi persepsi publik dan meningkatkan daya tarik wisatawan dengan menggunakan konsep nation branding (Anholt), diplomasi publik, dan diplomasi budaya. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan data primer dan sekunder. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film berkontribusi signifikan dalam mempromosikan budaya dan keindahan pariwsata Thailand kepada masyarakat Indonesia. Strategi nation branding yang diterapkan Thailand dilakukan melalui dua pendekatan utama. Pertama, promosi budaya melalui representasi elemen-elemen khas Thailand dalam film, seperti tradisi, kepercayaan, kehidupan sosial, dan kuliner. Kedua, promosi pariwisata melalui penempatan destinasi wisata atau lokasi ikonik secara sinematik yang menarik minat audiens internasional Representasi budaya yang kuat dalam film telah berhasil membangun ketertarikan masyarakat Indonesia terhadap Thailand, baik dari aspek budaya maupun destinasi wisata. Ketertarikan ini berdampak pada pembentukan persepsi positif dan meningkatnya jumlah kunjungan wisatawan Indonesia ke Thailand selama periode 2022 – 2024 / Thailand has leveraged the rapid development of its film industry as a strategy to build its national image. The popularity of Thai films presents an opportunity to promote the country's culture and tourism to a global audience, including the Indonesian public. Through the representation of traditions, values, language, and locations, Thai films serve as an effective tool of diplomacy. This study aims to examine the contribution of Thai films as a nation branding tool in promoting Thai culture and tourism to the Indonesian audience during the period of 2022–2024. The research investigates how Thai films influence public perception and enhance tourism appeal by applying the concepts of nation branding (Anholt), public diplomacy, and cultural diplomacy. A qualitative approach was applied in this research, drawing on primary and secondary data. The findings indicate that Thai films significantly contribute to the promotion of Thai culture and the beauty of its tourist destinations among the Indonesian audience. Thailand’s nation branding strategy is carried out through two main approaches. First, cultural promotion is achieved through the representation of uniquely Thai elements in films, such as traditions, beliefs, social life, and culinary heritage. Second, tourism promotion is conducted through the cinematic placement of tourist destinations and iconic locations that attract international audiences. The strong cultural representations in Thai films have successfully generated interest among the Indonesian public, both in cultural aspects and travel destinations. This growing interest has led to the formation of a more positive perception of Thailand and an increase in the number of Indonesian tourists visiting the country during the 2022–2024 period.
