Abstract

Miss Universe merupakan ajang kontes kecantikan yang paling dikenal di seluruh dunia. Sebagai ajang yang menjadi pelopor dan tertua, Miss Universe merupakan salah satu dari 5 ajang kecantikan paling bergensi di dunia. Melalui penelitian ini akan membuktikan posisi kontes kecantikan bagi sebuah negara dalam hal diplomasi. Diplomasi merupakan upaya yang dapat dilakukan oleh aktor Hubungan Internasional dengan tujuan untuk mencapai kepentingan nasional. Saat ini, pendekatan diplomasi telah berubah. Pendekatan budaya menjadi salah satu upaya diplomasi yang dapat dilakukan. Dalam penelitian ini akan dijabarkan upaya-upaya yang dilakukan oleh Puteri Indonesia, sebagai aktor diplomasi non-negara pada ajang Miss Universe. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep diplomasi budaya dan nation branding dan menyajikan hasil penelitian berupa hasil wawancara. Dalam penelitian yang menggunakan metodelogi kualitatif studi kasus ini, akan memperlihatkan upaya yang dilakukan oleh Puteri Indonesia dalam melakukan diplomasi budaya dan nation branding. Serta dampak dari keikutsertaan Indonesia dalam ajang Miss Universe. Sehingga melalui hasil penelitian skripsi ini, dapat menjadi rekomendasi bagi setiap pembaca untuk mengubah persepsi kontes kecantikan sebagai sarana untuk melakukan diplomasi budaya dengan cara eksibisi dan kompetisi. Serta memberikan dukungan bagi para perwakilan Indonesia yang berjuang di panggung internasional. Selain itu, ia juga mempercayakan Puteri Indonesia menjadi duta pemerintah dalam memajukan budaya Indonesia, bahkan dalam hal diplomasi publik. As a pioneer and oldest event, Miss Universe is one of the 5 most prestigious beauty events in the world. This research will prove the position of a beauty pageant for a country in terms of diplomacy. Diplomacy is an effort that can be made by international relations actors with the aim of achieving national interests. Today, the diplomatic approach has changed. The cultural approach is one of the diplomatic efforts that can be done. In this study, the efforts made by Puteri Indonesia, as a non-state diplomacy actor in the Miss Universe event. This study uses the concepts of cultural diplomacy and nation branding and presents the research results in the form of interviews. In this research that uses a qualitative case study methodology, we will try the efforts made by Puteri Indonesia in carrying out cultural diplomacy and nation branding. And the impact of Indonesia's participation in the Miss Universe event. So that through this thesis research, it can be a recommendation for every reader to change the perceptions of beauty pageant as a means to carry out cultural diplomacy by exhibitions and competitions. As well as providing support for Indonesian representatives who are struggling on the international stage. In addition, also entrusted Puteri Indonesia to be the government's ambassador in advancing Indonesian culture, even in terms of public diplomacy.
