Abstract

Faloak (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br) berasal dari Nusa Tenggara Timur. Kulit batang faloak sering dipakai dalam mengobati penyakit hepatitis, tifus, maag dan gastroenteritis. Penggunaan bahan alam ini dengan direbusnya kulit batang faloak dan diminum. Dalam Kulit batang faloak terkandung flavonoid, saponin alkaloid, steroid dan terpenoid sebagai antibakteri. Tujuannya adalah memperoleh informasi mengenai kemampuan ekstrak kulit batang faloak sebagai antibakteri khususnya bakteri Salmonella typhi secara in vitro. Uji antibakteri tersebut dilakukan dengan cara membuat ekstrak kulit batang faloak terlebih dahulu menggunakan pelarut etanol 70%. Ekstrak kulit batang faloak diencerkan pada konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, dan 100%. Pengulangan dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali. Kontrol positifnya adalah antibiotik Kloramfenikol sedangkan kontrol negatifnya adalah DMSO 20%. Metode yang dipakai adalah difusi Kirby-Bauer dan difusi sumuran pada agar Mueller Hinton. Hasil uji diamati dan dihitung menggunakan jangka sorong pada daerah jernih yang terbentuk di dekat cakram dan sumuran. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah pada metode difusi Kirby-Bauer dan difusi sumuran tidak terlihat terbentuknya zona hambat pada kelima konsentrasi tersebut. Oleh karena itu, ekstrak kulit batang faloak tidak terbukti efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Salmonella typhi. / Faloak (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br) comes from East Nusa Tenggara. Faloak bark is often used to treat hepatitis, typhus, ulcers and gastroenteritis. This natural ingredient is used by boiling the faloak bark and drinking it. Faloak bark contains flavonoids, alkaloid saponins, steroids and terpenoids as antibacterials. The aim is to obtain information regarding the ability of phaloak bark extract as an antibacterial, especially Salmonella typhi bacteria in vitro. The antibacterial test was carried out by first making phaloak bark extract using 70% ethanol solvent. Faloak bark extract was diluted at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Repetition was carried out 4 times. The positive control is the antibiotic Chloramphenicol while the negative control is DMSO 20%. The methods used were Kirby-Bauer diffusion and well diffusion on Mueller Hinton agar. The test results were observed and calculated using a caliper on the clear areas formed near the discs and wells. The results obtained were that using the Kirby-Bauer diffusion and well diffusion methods, no inhibition zones were visible at the five concentrations. Therefore, faloak bark extract was not proven to be effective in inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi.
