Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan kontribusi pada pemahaman Pengembangan Budaya sapa, salam, senyum, Sopan, dan Santun (5S) sebagai pembangunan karakter di SMA Charitas Jakarta. Dalam menghadapi dampak globalisasi, pengembangan kepribadian peserta didik menjadi esensial. Budaya sekolah, khususnya 5S dianggap dasar dalam pendidikan karakter. Metode penelitian kualitatif dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi melibatkan 8 peserta didik, Wakil Kepala Sekolah Bidang Kesiswaan, dan 2 guru. Budaya 5S di SMA Charitas Jakarta berhasil membentuk karakter peserta didik dengan sikap ramah, hormat, dan komunikatif. Observasi dan wawancara menunjukan pemahaman dan internalisasi nilai-nilai budaya, menciptakan suasana komunikasi yang baik dan keakraban di sekolah. Guru melihat perubahan positif pada peserta didik, terutama yang pendiam. Pendidikan karakter di lingkungan sekolah, termasuk nilai, budi pekerti dan moral penting untuk menciptakan generasi berakhlak mulia, dengan lingkungan sekolah dan budayanya memainkan peran utama. Pendidikan karakter tidak hanya terbatas pada lingkungan formal, melainkan dipengaruhi oleh interaksi sosial dan budaya, menekankan pentingnya moralitas selain prestasi akademis. Kata Kunci: Pendidikan Karakter, Budaya 5S. / This research aims to contribute to the understanding of Poilte, Greet, Smile, and Courteous (5S) Culture Development as character building at SMA Charitas Jakarta. In Facing the impact of globalization, the development of learners’ personalities becomes essential. School culture, especiallly culture of the 5S, is considered basic in character education. The qualitative research method with interview, observations, and documentation involved 8 students, the Vice Principal for Student Affair, and 2 teachers. The Culture of 5S at SMA Charitas Jakarta succeeded in shaping learners’ characters with friendly, respectful, and communicative attitudes. Observations and interviews showed understanding and internalization of culture values, creating an atmosphere of good communication and familiarity at school. Teachers see positive changes in learnes, especially the quiet ones. Character education in the school environment, including values, manners, and morals, is important to create a generation of noble characters, with the school environment and its culture playing a major role. Character education is not only limited to the formal environment but is also influenced by social and cultural interactions, emphasizing the importance of morality in addition to academic achievement.
