Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti mengenai persepsi mahasiswa pendidikan Bahasa Inggris terhadap motivasi dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Penelitian dilakukan di Fakultas Sastra dan Bahasa, Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Kristen Indonesia pada bulan Mei 2021. Penelitian ini melibatkan 68 responden untuk mengisi kuesioner. Responden diambil dari mahasiswa semester satu sampai semester delapan pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Data kuantitatif dikumpulkan dengan cara menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Rata-rata skor setiap indikator adalah 2,99. Mahasiswa menunjukkan nilai motivasi dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka secara positif. Berdasarkan data analisis, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa pendidikan Bahasa Inggris merasakan adanya motivasi dan semangat belajar ketika mereka belajar Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Hal tersebut dapat memberikan dampak positif bagi mereka, terutama di dalam bidang pendidikan dan mereka dapat meningkatkan percaya diri mereka ketika mereka harus berbicara Bahasa Inggris kepada penutur bahasa Inggris asli. Kata kunci: Mahasiswa pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, motivasi, belajar Bahasa Inggris, meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. / This study was intended to study the perception of English education students on the motivation for learning English to improve their speaking ability. This study was carried out in the Faculty of Letters and Languages, English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Kristen Indonesia in May 2021. This study involves 68 respondents to fill the questionnaires. The respondents were taken from the one to the eighth semester of the English education students. Quantitative data were collected by using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The mean score of each indicator was 2.99. The students indicate the value of motivation in learning English to improve their speaking ability positively. Based on the data analysis, it may be concluded that most English Education students feel the motivation and passion to learn as they learn English to improve their speaking ability. This can have a positive effect on them, especially in education and they can boost their confidence when they must speak English to native English speakers.
