Abstract

Daun kemangi (Ocimum basilicum L.) sudah dikenal dan dipergunakan oleh masyarakat sebagai tanaman obat sejak berabad-abad yang lalu. Senyawa metabolit utama yang dihasilkan tumbuhan Ocimum basilicum L. ini umumnya dapat menghambat pertumbuhan patogen yang merugikan kehidupan manusia, diantaranya Staphylococcus aureus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun kemangi terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus dan berapa konsentrasi yang memiliki pengaruh terbesar pada Staphylococcus aureus. Konsentrasi uji yang dipakai pada penelitian ini adalah 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% dan kontrol positif, kontrol negatif. Metode Difusi Kirby Bauer dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali pada tiap sampel. Zona hambat yang dihasilkan pada penelitian ini diukur menggunakan jangka sorong dengan tingkat ketelitian 0.01 mm. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan pada 5 sampel konsentrasi ekstrak daun kemangi menunjukan besar zona hambat yang berbeda dengan diameter yang terbesar oleh sampel dengan konsentrasi 100% sebesar 9.50 mm. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat konsentrasi ekstrak daun kemangi mempengaruhi pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus. Kata Kunci: Antimikroba, Staphylococcus aureus, Daun Kemangi ./Basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum L.) are known and used by many people as medicinal herbs for centuries. Primary metabolite compound that Ocimum basilicum L. family produce hamper pathogen growth that harmful towards human, such as Staphylococcus aureus. This research aiming for learning the influence of basil leaves extract towards Staphylococcus aureus and how much concentration that have most influence towards Staphylococcus aureus growth. Concentration used in this research are 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% dan positive control, negative control. This research using Kirby Bauer Diffusion Method 4 times for each concentration sample. Clear zone created by sample are measured using calipers that have 0.01 mm accuracy. Result of 5 concentration sample of basil leaves extract showing different clear zone to each sample with the largest clear zone created by 100% concentration sample (9.50 mm). From this result, we can conclude that concentration level of basil leaves extract influencing growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Search key: Antimicrobial, Staphylococcus aureus, Basil Leaves
